Research topics:

  • The triangle: carotenoids-retinoids-cytochromes plays a key role in development and progress of cancer
  • The application of Raman imaging and spectroscopy in lipidomic, proteomic, and epigenetic studies of normal and cancerous tissues and cells in the human brain, breast gland, lungs, and gastrointestinal tract, under both normal and oxidative stress conditions.
  • Studying the nanomechanical properties of human tissues and cells using AFM (Atomic Force Microscopy) and AFM-nano-IR techniques.
  • The application of fluorescence spectroscopy in studying the structure and metabolic pathways of human cells, and spectroscopic analysis of cell viability.
  • Femtosecond dynamics of molecular photoswitches from the diarylethene group.

Dr hab. Beata Brożek-Płuska, Prof. PŁ, delivered a keynote lecture at the 2nd Annual International Conference on Optics, Photonics and Lasers (AICOPL 2026), which took place in Lisbon on April 13–15, 2026.

prof. Wood

On March 27, 2026, we had the pleasure of hosting Professor Bayden Wood from Monash University (Australia) at our Institute. The visit was hosted by the Laboratory of Laser Molecular Spectroscopy.
The visit was an excellent opportunity for scientific discussions, presenting our research, and exchanging valuable insights. It also included a tour of our Institute and the Faculty of Chemistry - including the modern Alchemium facility - as well as meetings with research groups and laboratory visits. Such meetings open new opportunities for collaboration and enrich our research perspective.
Professor Bayden Wood is an internationally recognised expert in multimodal spectroscopy and heritage science. He leads the Monash Biospectroscopy Group, where his work integrates Raman, infrared, and photothermal imaging with advanced chemometric and machine learning approaches to address complex challenges across cultural heritage, biomedicine, and environmental diagnostics. He has authored over 250 publications and collaborates worldwide.
We are very grateful for this visit and look forward to future collaboration!

wykład prof Bayden

On 27 March 2026, at Alchemium, as part of the seminar “Hot Topics in Science and Technology”, we had the pleasure of hosting Prof. Bayden Wood from Monash University, Melbourne (Australia), who, during his visit to Lodz University of Technology, delivered a lecture titled “Malaria, Mummies, and Molecular Signatures”.
The lecture attracted great interest from students and staff across interdisciplinary academic fields in Łódź. The fascinating topic sparked lively scientific discussions and questions about research that seemed never-ending.
Prof. Wood’s presentation was a true spectroscopic journey through antiquity, archaeology, medicine, and modern diagnostic technologies, demonstrating how molecular and chemical traces help uncover history, health, and the secrets of ancient cultures.
We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to explore Prof. Wood’s research and his inspiring perspective on science. Thank you for your visit, and we look forward to more scientific encounters in the future!
